A well-established and highly operational business within the automotive manufacturing and truck body building sector is seeking to appoint a hands-on Human Resources Officer to manage the full HR and Labour Relations function within a fast-paced, unionized workshop environment.

This is not a traditional office-based HR role. The successful candidate will be highly operational, visible on the workshop floor, and actively involved in maintaining labour stability, compliance, and workforce effectiveness across the business.

The role reports directly to the CEO and requires a practical, resilient, and experienced HR professional who is comfortable operating in a deadline-driven production environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Industrial Relations & Labour Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with the MIBCO Main Agreement and all relevant labour legislation including:
– LRA
– BCEA
– EEA
– OHSA
– COIDA

• Manage union engagement and maintain proactive relationships with shop stewards and labour representatives
• Facilitate grievance, disciplinary, and retrenchment processes
• Liaise with Bargaining Council, Department of Labour, and Employer Organisation representatives
• Maintain accurate Occupational Health & Safety and injury reporting processes

HR Administration & Workforce Management

• Manage and maintain the biometric time and attendance system
• Monitor attendance accuracy, missed punches, reporting, and workforce administration
• Handle onboarding administration including:
– Employment contracts
– Pre-employment checks
– Onboarding documentation

• Administer promotions, transfers, exits, and employee movement processes
• Maintain accurate HR records and reporting systems

Dispute Resolution & Representation

• Represent the business in CCMA and Bargaining Council matters
• Prepare hearing bundles, legal submissions, evidence, and supporting documentation
• Conduct disciplinary hearings and grievance investigations ensuring procedural and substantive fairness

Strategic HR & Talent Management

• Support workforce planning and organizational design initiatives
• Drive performance management and improvement interventions
• Lead change management initiatives aligned to operational requirements
• Train line managers on labour legislation, fair labour practices, and MIBCO interpretation

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Degree or National Diploma in:
– Human Resources
– Labour Relations
– Labour Law

• Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in a dedicated HR / Labour Relations role
• Strong experience within Automotive, Manufacturing, Engineering, Production, or Bargaining Council-regulated environments
• Proven experience representing employers at CCMA or Bargaining Council level
• Strong understanding of labour legislation and unionized environments
• Experience working in operational and workshop-driven environments
• Fluent in English and isiZulu (written and verbal)
• Additional South African languages advantageous
• Willingness to travel nationally when required
